The Days are Getting Longer – Hurray!

December 22, 2010 by erinlittle

Last year we started a new tradition of decorating our Christmas tree on the winter solstice.  I think the two mesh because the tree and celebrating solstices and equinoxes have pagan roots.  I feel connected to the earth, history, and humanity.  My spirits are always lifted by the winter solstice because I love having longer days.  I think that summer solstice might be my favourite day of the year, because it’s the longest.

We use real candles on the tree (as well as white lights but not at the same time).  There is nothing quite as beautiful as a Christmas tree with real candles.

I like the idea of celebrating the solstice, but I don’t think I could wait that long to decorate the tree!

holy crap! real candles! They are so beautiful…I could never relax I don’t think with them on mine. It’s a great tradition though!
