I get asked all the time what my thoughts are on deep fryers at home. I’m generally fairly honest and tell people there are two reasons I haven’t owned a deep fryer until now:
  1. My memory of deep frying in our house growing up involved a huge mess, and a massive clean up job. Splattering oil on surfaces, straining oil through filters for future use. Way too much trouble.
  2. I love fried foods and would likely fry everything in sight. Fried appetizers, main courses, snacks and dessert? Yes please!
When I was asked to review the EZ Clean T-fal Deep fryer I was really excited by their promise of a no-mess fryer. Something I had to see to believe. 
As promised, T-fal has completely revolutionized the deep frying experience. The deep fryer was great at cooking all of the food I put to the test – but it was the EZ Clean technology that really won me over.
To start, the lid has a big see-through window on it. This allows you to keep the lid closed while items are cooking, avoiding any splashing oil. What was incredible though, was once I was done deep frying I simply flicked a switch and walked away. The EZ Clean waits until the oil has cooled, automatically strains it through a filtering system, and leaves it locked away in an easy to store sealed container. Ready for next time – no spills, no filters, no mess. 
The rest of the deep fryer parts, other than the control unit itelf are entirely dishwasher safe! Really incredible! Now that I’ve resolved my 1st issue I had with deep fryers, I’m going to have to find a way to work on the 2nd… which leads me to….

Deep Fried Pickles with Peppercorn Ranch Dressing

I was introduced to deep fried pickles in the Southern U.S. I know, they sound odd at first – but they are addictively delicious. Served with a great dip, I couldn’t make them as quick as they were being eaten.
Ingredients:

1 litre jar of Bick’s Yum Yum Pickles
1/2 cups flour

1 egg yolk
1/2 cup beer

Pinch of baking powder

Vegetable oil for frying 
1/2 cup Peppercorn Ranch dressing, for serving
Preparation:
  1. Preheat the fryer. Dry the pickles chips with paper towel. Season with a sprinkling of dry rub. 
  2. In a small bowl season flour with 2 tablespoons dry rub. In another mixing bowl, whisk the yolks and 1/4 cup of the beer. Whisk in enough flour to form a batter. If the batter is too thick add the remaining beer to thin the batter. 
  3. Dredge the pickles in the seasoned flour and then in the batter, letting the excess drip off. Gently lay the pickle chips in the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 3 to 4 minutes. Remove the pickles from the oil and drain on a paper-lined plate. 
  4. Season the pickle chips with dry rub and serve with Peppercorn Ranch Dressing.

    WOW!! What an improvement in deep frying. I remember the days of smelly, splattering oil and big clean ups too. I love the idea of closing the lid and having it cook then cool on its own. I haven’t made or eaten fried chicken, fish or homemade fries or donuts for years but I would definitely give it a shot if I had the new T-Fal deep fryer. First off would be donuts like my Grandmother and my Mom used to make – minus the mess!

    I am a huge lover of FRIED CHICKEN, done very crispy and golden on the outside while juicy on the inside. That is a huge weakness for me and my family. Everything comes to a rapid halt in my family, when it comes to fried chicken “WE LOVE IT!”

    Homemade donuts are my guilty deep friend pleasure. Mum makes them for our family when we visit. She makes about 2 dozen and they usually do not last for more than a day.
    I can eat about 4 at a time.
    The donuts she makes are irrestible. Also, at Christmas, she adds cinnamon to the donuts as an extra special treat.
    Gosh, I think I gained a pound or two just thinking about them. I guess we should go and visit Mum this weekend.

    Guilt but oh so pleasureable…large pasta shells stuffed with tuna, peppers, challots, seasoning, breaded and all deep fried..mhhhmmmm..and don’t forget the lemon-dill dipping sauce!! Desperately need a new deep fryer.

    i am a huge fan of home-fries, but just love to make deep fried mushrooms with beer-batter, and my husband loves the butterfly shrimp in the beer-batter.

    I would have to say that hot wings are number one on my guiltiest pleasure list. I have a regular deep fryer at home a what a mess it is to clean. I usually just go to the neighborhood pub on wing night just to avoid deep frying wings at home because of cleaning my deep fryer. I would rather have wings at home, my son is 19 so we can both go to the pub together but my daughter is only 15 and she feels left out. We all LOVE hot wings and enjoy being together as a family to enjoy them.

    Well if I was awarded a T-fal deep fryer I would no longer cook my favourite meal in a frying pan with oil that burns it. Right Away I would cook my favorite thing called “Chicken Flingers”!!!! With a sliced boneless chicken breast you first roll your chicken strips into flour, then into beaten eggs, and finally the secret ingredient….ritz crackers. Wrap them up on a plate and put them into your fridge for 1-2 hours to allow batter to stick. Heat up your favorite bbq sauce in a pot and DEEP FRY YOUR FLINGERS!!!! when the flingers are ready dunk them into your heated bbq sauce and ENJOY your FLINGERS!!! 🙂

    We use our deep fryer for many things, but my husband’s favourite, is when i’m away and he deep fries chopped up wieners and french fries! Our deep fryer is old and we definitely need a new one!

    My favorite would have to be real Belgium frites!
    As a young girl, I traveled with my parents and lived in many countries, one of them was a stop in Brussels. I met up with a neighbor and she taught my mom how to make the real thing! My mom taught me when I got older! There is a trick! I have been sworn to secrecy! Yummy! Now this our family indulgence!

    My absolute favorite is something we call “Flingers”!!! After you cut the chicken breast it gets rolled in flour, then into beaten eggs, and finally rolled in RITZ CRACKERS crumbled up. After deep fryying you remove and dunk them into a pot with your favorite bbq sause thats heated up. Then you have FLINGERS!!! i have to use oil in a frying pan but a deep fryer would be the best!!!!

    It’s definitely a toss-up between zucchinni sticks and battered mushrooms. Both are getting harder and harder to find in restaurants, so they’re usually a homemade guilty fried pleasure!

    I love mozza sticks… and making doughnuts.. loovvveee the little doughnuts… so soft and tasty on the inside and yet a touch of crispyness on the outside, just typing about them is making me want some… oops.. need a mapkin, I just drooled onto my keyboard..;)

    Fried anything is comforting. What I enjoy most are: fried mushrooms/zucchini/sweet potatoes/cauliflower, fried shrimp/calamari/crab & lobster meat, and fried empanada’s and samosa’s.

    My favorite thing to deep fry is called crab rangoon….take a wonton wrapper and fill with a mixture of cream cheese and crab meat (add a little wasabi if you lik heat) and fill and fry! Oh my goodness these are delicious with sweet and sour sauce!

    A fryer that has a window like an oven, how great is that, and self-cleaning!! I tried deep fried pickles at a restaurant and they were a big hit…possibilities are astonishing!     Well, that picture of the deep fried pickles has my mouth watering. We love making the usual french fries and onion rings but also Corn Fritters with ham and Hush Puppies with cornmeal. Yum. And to top everything off, Jelly Donuts or Jam Busters. OMG

    I really don’t know what my favorite fried food is, because the last time I tried to deep fry french fries for my family during the holidays, the oil exploded out of the pot and nearly caught the cupboard on fire!! I think I’ll stick to oven french fries for safety reasons for now!!

    I love all things deep-fried, but I’ve always been afraid to cook anything this way myself, what with the hot, splattering oil and the possibility of a fire. This fryer by T-Fal seems pretty safe and user-friendly. My favorites would for sure be fish and chips, chicken, and tempura vegetables. And I’ve been wanting to try the pickles forever!

    Show me the buffalo chicken wings! Nice and crispy with sweet and spicy thai sauce. Yum-mo! Onion rings and Taquitos are another favourite in our house. Why no one ever thought of making a fryer that filters the oil before now is beyond me.

    My guilty pleasure when deep frying is deep frying Ice cream, its a delicious treat! all you need is 3 eggs, vanilla ice cream, or whatever flavour you prefer, and kelloggs cereal. Make sure you only use the egg whites, and beat. Squish kelloggs cereal into finer crumbs
    Make however many balls of ice cream you want, form in your hand quickly into circles, put your balls of ice cream on a plate back into the freezer for an hour, take out, roll in egg than kelloggs smushed cereal do with all balls. Put back into freezer for 30 minutes. Heat deep fryer to 350, put a few balls in at a time, making sure you roll them around with a spoon, dont over fry, as the ice cream could come out.
    Voila!! Eat up!

    Chicken wings at home? And not with freezer burn. How delicious. I have often considered buying one, just afraid I would fall off the eating right bandwagon I am on. BUT, I am willing to test my willpower and have one. Everything in moderation!

    I love deep fried pickles! My husband thought I was nuts when I first made them, but now he is a die hard fan. My favorite, though, is beer battered onion rings. So simple, but I can never get enough!

    Considering my favorite food is poutine, I would make so many more of them at home if I could deep fry my own fries. Between poutine and fries dressing and gravy it would be a well used appliance !

    I’ve not had deep-fried pickles but would love to try them.
    My first choice would be making donuts, then maybe a side of calamari.

    I love deep fried pickles! Though I’ve never tried to make them at home.
    Fish & chips would be my big guilty pleasure. And I’ve been known to deep fry random veggies lying around 🙂

    I love everything deep-fried! Wontons, jalapeno poppers, cheese, zucchini, mushrooms, onion rings, french fries, Cadbury Cream Eggs, Mars bars, chicken fingers, funnel cakes, doughnuts…I could go on for days. My favourite concession at Wonderland was always Fried Veggies! Hot oil makes everything better.

    My favorite would be deep fried brie…….or any cheese for that matter. I LOVE the texture and when dipped in a side of various dips – awesome!!!
