I receive emails with a lot of food questions, recipe suggestions, etc. Someone asked me if I’d do a post on the man behind the pot (see avatar on right) – so here are some of your questions answered in the first ever Chef Dad FAQ post:
- Q: What are some of your favourite foods?
A: That’s a lot tougher of a question than it sounds once you start to think about all the great foods out there. If I have to go with a top 5: pizza, steak, beef ribs and ‘wine & cheese’. What are some of YOUR favourites? - Q: What are some of your least favourite foods?
A: I’m not a huge potato fan – and I can’t stand canned or frozen vegetables of almost any kind.
- Q: Where did you learn how to cook?
A: I started cooking while I was in university. I’d watch midday television which quite often had shows like Wok with Yan, see something I really wanted to eat, and set off to try and make it for dinner. I don’t have any formal training as a chef… just 15 years of making a mess in the kitchen. - Q: Is it true you published a cookbook?
A: About 4 years ago It tired of everyone asking me for recipes over and over so I self-published a cookbook called Grill Interrupted. It was a lot of work to put together but I had a great time doing it. It certainly gave me the confidence to start up my website some years later – GrillInterrupted.com - Q: With all the good eats, how is it that you aren’t 300 lbs?
A: That’s a great question – and it is not easy. I LOVE food. Snack food, sandwiches, entrees, eat-in, take-out. Love. Luckily, the same time I was teaching myself to cook, I was also learning to play hockey. I haven’t stopped either since. I estimate I’ve played about 1250 hockey games in the last 15 years – which is about how many I’d have played if I were a professional hockey player… - Q: Is it true you’re sporting a moustache? What’s up with that?
A: Long story short… I’m doing this really worthwhile fundraiser for Prostate Cancer Awareness called Movember. Yes I’m sporting a ‘stache until Tuesday. Yes it’s itchy. Yes it’s pretty ugly. And YES! You can donate and learn more here.
