Double the trouble, double the fun!
Shakira and her partner Gerard Piqué welcomed their second baby boy on Thursday, according to the singer’s official website. He was born at 9:54pm via caesarean section. According to hospital reports, both the mother and child are in excellent health.
The couple named their son Sasha, a name of both Russian and Greek descent, meaning “defender of mankind” and “warrior.”
“They’ve told me he looks like Gerard. [Their first son] Milan looked like Shakira when he was born but this one looks more like his father,” Amador Bernabéu, Piqué’s grandfather, told Hello! Sasha was born in the same hospital in Barcelona as his older brother Milan, who just recently celebrated a second birthday on January 22. In an interesting twist of fate, both Shakira and Piqué also share a birthday on February 2, making the start of every year extra special for the family.
While this is only Shakira’s second child, the songstress has talked about wanting a little soccer team of her own with partner and professional soccer player, Piqué. “I would love to have eight or nine kids with Gerard — My own futbol team,” she told Latina magazine last April.
And while she still has a long way to go (like 6 or 7 babies more!), Shakira does hope her next one will be a girl. “I’d like to have a girl one day, but we’ll see, because you never know what’s going to happen. At the moment I’m happy because I love boys too.”
Congrats to the growing fam!
