The kids and I are traveling this week. We’re splitting our time at the grandparents houses because I simply couldn’t spend another week snowed in alone with both of my children. We were all going a little stir crazy. Seriously I have no idea how single parents do it, although I guess there aren’t a lot of single-stay-at-home parents.
It’s really nice that I’m able to pick up and go with the kids since my husband is out of town all week but holy moses I am going to need a bigger car. This is the list of items I had to pack in my car.
myself
2 children
2 carseats
carry-on sized suitcase and tote bag
backpack
2 child-sized suitcases
1 regular diaper bag
1 large diaper bag
travel bassinet
2 strollers
DVD case and movies
Granted I had to pack us for 8 days but please note that both grandparents houses are stocked with diapers and food and toys. I honestly feel like I only bring what we need. I try to pack lightly with clothes and just plan on doing laundry once or twice. The organizational side of me says that packing things separately in small bags helps keep stuff together and makes it easier to transport but is this really the best way?
I need advice from travel savvy parents. How do you pack for long trips? Lots of little bags, just a few big bags?

I had to add the PSP, iPad and about 10 other electronics to that list haha and my kids wanted even to bring a portable LCD! it’s just a mess with technology packing too these days, especially with all the gadgets. I take one big bag for long trips but it’s just a mess putting the little baggies in there to stack up 😉
