HEY GUYS! First of all, I’m so excited to be blogging for Urban Moms. To give a quick introduction: my name is Becca, I just found out I’m an inch shorter than I thought I was, I like candy, and I have two kids. I also had one of those Lifetime movie starts to my marriage, which was pregnant at 19 after dating four months, but unlike Lifetime, it didn’t end with tears, regret and alcohol abuse. I’m one of the rare cases where we’re still in love, and still together, eight years later. One of my joys in life is being a good example of a terrible idea.
After Ali asked me if I wanted to write here (yes), she asked what I wanted to write about. Which was everything awesome, really. I also have a special place in my heart for everything geeky (web design, Photoshop, science, Star Trek, comic books, movies, nerd gear, baby gears, gadgets and gizmos aplenty, video games, and– of course– fonts). And if you’re not sure if any of this is interesting or applies to your life, just give it a try, and I’ll do my best to keep it fresh.
I thought I’d kind of ease into this by touching on awesome back to school supplies. Like I said, I have two kids– Elias is 7, and Addie turned 5 yesterday. This is the first day of my entire life that both children are in school fulltime. While I’m cash poor at the moment, I am idea rich with all the things I’d buy to make the school year easier. Number one is Clocky:
So cute, right? And now you’re noticing the wheels. Yes. You’re not crazy. Clocky is a mobile alarm. When it goes off, it runs away from you. So you have to chase it down to actually turn it off. This is absolutely brilliant because (A) it’s always funny when it happens to someone else, and (B) it basically does the follow-up nagging for you.
And of course you need a chalkboard to remember who goes where and when after they’re awake.
These Land of Nod Julien Chung chalkboards are gorgeous, and at $29, they’re not terribly expensive; especially since they’d really double as a wall art piece. And while I love Martha Stewart’s idea of a magnetic lunch menu-–
— since they’ll be eating the same thing all year, mine would just be variations on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Still, if you have young kids, or if you basically run their lunchboxes cafeteria-style or multiple choice, this is a really cute and free project. Head over there and gank it.
And they’re off! Hopefully. Awake, packed, and scheduled. And dressed, which I didn’t mention at all, because I can’t find anything cool that will make that easier. Now you have time to stay at home and write important things in fonts like:
and play important games like:
— No? Just me?

I must say, I’m MOST excited about your love of fonts. I can’t resist downloading a good font, even if I have no need for it.
