I’m just coming off a lazy weekend with family, and I feel like I need to e-a-s-e myself into this week… reggae often does the trick. Buy nature, it’s slow-ish and groovy, and there’s nothing rushed about it. Feels like my weekend.
With reggae, you gotta drop that plucky beat on the one and the three – that’s what makes it sound so deep, in that totally boss kind of way – it’s enjoyable and danceable for everyone.
The most famous reggae dude of all time is Bob Marley, of course… and who doesn’t love Brother Bob? (Oy, if you don’t then I don’t really want to know you.) But to step off his well-beaten path, try this blonde, dread-locked, skateboard-ridin’ Australian I turned onto a few years ago – John Butler. This is the trio’s tune, Zebra, from 2006. His band has played with the likes of the Dave Matthews Band and Ben Harper – blues-y, roots-y, world-ish music. I like the vibe. And I also really like the simplicity of this video, all sepia-like and fairly organic.
Get up and dance, if you wanna…
Right? Das right, mon.
Happy Monday to all you hippy muthers out there, Urban or otherwise…

Oh lady. I had a board once upon a time… used to mostly just ride it in a straight line to the corner store and back (which doesn’t make me much of a Betty – poo!) but I dig the culture pretty hard. And that Camilla d’Errico artist person (http://www.urbanmoms.ca/on_top_of_the_mutherload/2011/09/getting-all-hung-up.html) does some wicked board art… I’ve come thisclose to buying a board, just to have it. (But that feels… wrong somehow. Poo.)
I guess we chickens will just have to cluck together, huh Alice?!
