For our anniversary, we went to see Avenue Q, off Broadway, which was fabulous. We then had a late dinner at DB Bistro Moderne, one of several restaurants owned by Daniel Bouloud (famous for his $44 hamburger, which we didn’t have but was on the menu!). We this place because of its proximity to the theatre district and because the kitchen was open late.
It seemed crazy to have dinner at 11pm, but it was fun! It felt reckless not to have to eat at 5:30 like clockwork, and to just do things when we felt like it. At DB Bistro, we dined on poached lobster, a cold summer corn soup garnished with shrimp and spring onions, and a light, delectable pasta in a veal ragout with fresh summer peas. The finale was a shared chocolate cake with banana mousse. Heavenly.
At Bloomingdales, we lunched at the in-store restaurant, Flip, on the recommendation of fellow blogger and friend, Vicki (she wrote about her experience there in her NY post a few weeks ago!). My husband loved the burger and fries combo, where I found it a little heavy for lunch.
During our couple of days there, my Husband became a big fan of the Halal food carts and their savoury offerings. He loved his halal Italian sausage from Fatim.
The piece de resistance of our NYC culinary adventure was a Malaysian restaurant, Nyonya, in Soho (also a recommendation from a friend!). The food was divine – so filled with flavour that we savoured every mouthful with care and time. My favourite dish (see below!) was the roti with chicken curry dipping sauce.
