My husband has been working a lot lately, and I’ve really missed him. It gets kind of lonely around here without him, and I get a bit grouchy. We finally had a morning together on Sunday and it was perfect.
We dropped the kids at their Sunday school, and took the Baby for a stroll through the Shops at Don Mills (a new outdoor mall in Toronto). Our first stop was McNally Robinson, the book store which originated in Winnipeg before making its Eastern debut here in Toronto. I love this book store. The books are organised in such a way that it’s easy to find what you’re looking for; I spent most of my time in the kids’ section (lately I don’t have the attention span to read) and found a couple of fun reads for my daughter’s upcoming birthday. My husband picked up the new version of the Beatles’ Revolver CD, which has been digitally remastered and sounds amazing.
We grabbed coffee at the book store cafe and went to check out McEwan, the grocery store extraordinaire, recently opened by Toronto chef celebre, Mark McEwan. What a feast for the senses: freshly prepared Indian food, dim sum, sushi, bistro fare, pastries, and more. Everything was local, fresh and visually stunning. I was kicking myself for not carrying my camera – I wanted to blog about the food as soon as I walked in! McEwan celebrates food in every way. It’s quite expensive, though, not really suited for a day-to-day grocery pick-up. However, for a special occasion, it’s definitely a great alternative to eating out, or the usual take-out stuff.
We walked, munched, sipped, chased after our little one on the grass and wandered on a crisp fall morning. Perfect.

That sounds wonderful. And McEwans sounds divine! I must get there sometime…when I can actually drive into the city…
So glad to hear you got a lovely morning out with your hubby.
