Yesterday we celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, the end of Ramadan. This year was our turn to host the family lunch. Here are some of the highlights (I will post some pictures later this week).
- Seeing my kids and nephews dressed up in their exquisite salwar kameez and kurta pyjama; they looked like little princes and princesses in their special outfits.
- Eating the delicious biryani (rice cooked with chicken and saffron) and bhagara baingan (spicy eggplant curry) prepared respectively by my cousin and sister-in-law. They are both great cooks, and the traditional meal was a perfect way to conclude the day’s activities.
- My son’s excitement at FINALLY getting a video game system. We broke down and got him a Wii. It’s very cool, I must say, and I love the fact that it requires him to be active instead of sitting in front of the computer.
- The post-Eid lethargy. After a day of eating, all we could do was to put our feet up and watch the Emmys. I lasted about 10 minutes before I fell into a content slumber.

Sounds wonderful, Amreen. I watched a really cool show on Food network yesterday about celebrating Eid in Turkey…they made the same dessert but called it “gulach”. It sounds heavenly!
