So the weekend is over, and I’m feeling a combination of exhaustion and exhilaration from our adventures. The weekend was filled with family, friends, and kids’ birthday parties. We had two kids’ parties that were a lot of fun for the kids. We’re finally getting to the stage where my two little ones don’t have to be so closely monitored at these things; they run and play, and in an enclosed environment, I can actually sit back and chat with my friends without watching their every move.
I love the friendships between friends formed at these parties; my son made a buddy at Sunday’s party, and within an hour, they were "best friends". When a third party tried to intervene on their play and confiscate a highly-coveted pirate sword, the two friends aligned to ward off interference. I love it – watching them play and interact as little people fascinates me and fills me with anticipation about this whole new world of friendship into which they will soon embark.
On Sunday night, we planned to go out for dinner with my family – my lovely mom-in-law is also visiting from Calgary. It was difficult to find somewhere that was open, I didn’t realise how many places closed for Victoria Day weekend. We finally ended up at Benihana at the Royal York, which turned out to be a blast. Not only was the food healthy and delicous, my kids and my nephew loved the entertaining chef at our table who prepared the food right in front of us with lots of cool tricks (like creating a smoke tower out of layered onions – very cool).
