Airport Musings

January 31, 2009 by amreen

We came back from Calgary a month ago.  At the Calgary airport, the person in front of me in the check-in line was wearing these:

Okay, I'm definitely in "casual" mode most of the time, but come on. Pink flannel Minnie Mouse pyjamas are NOT ACCEPTABLE TRAVEL CLOTHES!  Pyjamas on airplanes are one of my pet peeves.

Also, I continually horrify myself with my inability to travel light. It's just that I'd rather have everything just in case….our flight gets delayed and we need more clothes, an unexpected event comes up for which we need the right attire…when packing I err on the safe side.

So inevitably, my husband gets severely irritated whenever we go through check-in and our backs are in all marked "HEAVY" with those bright green tags.  I don't think it's unreasonable for a family of five to have 5 suitcases for a 2 week trip?

I’m with Katie. Yoga pants are AT LEAST as comfortable as pyjamas, and the better ones actually look pretty good. I remember flying to London last spring and thinking “why the hell did I wear dress pants and high heels?” on the way home I wore Lululemons and running shoes…but that’s a far as I’ll take it!

PJ’s out of the house are a NO NO NO! Unless you have to evacuate, please pull on jeans, yoga pants or a skirt. Katie, Style File.

Please don’t wear PJs in public! They are for sleeping in. In your own bed. At home. Maybe for wearing in public when you go camping and you need to go to the bathroom at night. That is all!
I love being comfortable too, but please don’t give up on yourself and wear your jammies to the airport.

How timely! I’m just packing this afternoon for our week long trip to Disney and seem to be able to manage 1 large and 1 med. suitcase for 4 people but having to pack only summer clothing does save on space. Now if my older daughter would stop taking her tops and pants out of the suitcase to wear then I’ll not have to worry about leaving something behind!
PS P.J.’s should never be worn outside the house….EVER!

You are so right, PJs are a no-no for travel. Jeesh.

I love it!!! I feel like I have become way more efficient with my packing over the years. It does help that my Mom is usually on the other end saying “don’t bring this or that for the boys, I have it!!” My trouble is my carry-on, there is just NEVER enough room in it. And why-oh-why do I have to carry 3 people’s stuff in my carry-on & the hubby has his own to himself!! Oh I just dread the big trip we are taking this summer!!! Not the vacation…the airline travel!!

We’re really, really light packers, which means that whenever we get someplace, we’ve always forgotten something really important. Like underpants or toothbrushes. So there’s THAT to be grateful for – I bet you guys are all stocked up!
    Hope you’re having fun!
