In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because-he’s a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable.
I would have never picked up this book had it not been for the constant chatter from some of my friends who were, to put it mildly, obsessed. I had heard about it but I thought that it would be a good read for a 14-year-old girl not a 30-something mom of two. But boy was I wrong. I spent my 5 days in Turks and Caicos grabbing every moment I could with Edward and Bella. This was the perfect beach book.
Twilight is aimed at tweens and teens but since I once was one and will soon have two of my own I had no trouble getting into the book. The story is intriguing, the characters bizarre yet compelling, and the book is nearly impossible to put down. I admit, I got hooked. The sense of danger between Bella and Edward and the their ongoing struggle for control – symbolic, of course, of the sexual tension experienced by every teen. These factors will keep readers frantically flipping pages until they reach the end…and then pick up the second installment, New Moon for more.

I’m reading Twilight right now. After a slow start, I’ve totally been sucked in. For me, it’s definitely the passionate, twisted and darkness of their romance that keeps me reading. Have you read the sequel?
