Have you made your Facebook movie yet? (If you haven’t, what rock have you been hiding under?)
To help celebrate its tenth birthday, Facebook has given all its users a gift: a neat little movie of your life AF (after Facebook – seriously: did any of us have a life before Facebook?), all wrapped up in one minute and handed to you with a bow on top.
I spent several hours on Facebook this evening watching all my friends’ movies, and although I typically don’t spend that much time on social media on weeknights (really: just ask my friends – they have to tag me if they want me to notice anything from Monday to Friday), I consider it time very well spent.
…why so many pictures of Starbucks cups, friends? Wait, don’t answer…
Some people’s movies made me laugh, others made me weep. Some were puzzling (why so many pictures of Starbucks cups, friends? Wait, don’t answer…I know, me too.) None were boring. But best of all, the movies gave me insight into the lives of people I know mostly in only one way: friends from work, neighbours, cousins, and friends I’ve never actually met in real life but who feel as close to me as any person whose hand I’ve had the privilege to actually shake in the flesh. You know who you are.
When I made my own, I was intrigued by the things that ‘floated to the top’ in my seven years on Facebook (related: everyone I know seems to have joined Facebook in 2007 – with the notable exception of my aunts and uncles, who admittedly also haven’t made or shared their movies yet, so…).
Under the “most liked posts” category, three of the four are related to my job, and all four have to do with me being very happy. Which is a very nice reminder: I’m fortunate indeed to have a job that I love. I’m also very fortunate to work with a group of amazing people. I am, overall, a really happy person (sunshine, lollipops and rainbows all the way!). I have two wonderful daughters who bring joy to my heart every single day. Yes; even when they hack my Facebook account, thereby gaining pride of place as the last picture in my movie!
It was a very nice reminder: I’m fortunate indeed.
And isn’t it nice, once in a while, to take a minute – literally one minute – and be reminded of all the really good things in your life?
I thought so.
So if you’ve made your Facebook movie, make sure you click that green button and share it. I guarantee you’ll make someone’s day when you do.
And if you haven’t yet…do it. Do it for yourself, and then share it with your friends.
Here’s My Facebook Movie.
