I was a bit skeptical when Johnson’s asked us to test out their new line of bath products for kids, Johnson’s Buddies, and feature a contest (contest closed) to win a basket full of Buddies products. Their claim that it encourages independence and decreases stress seemed a bit far fetched. I’ve been using No More Tears products for years, how different could these be?
Well, to my surprise they were a hit! Our urbanmoms.ca panel of testers, including 6 kids between the ages of 2 and 6, were given samples of each of the products and asked to give their honest opinion. Before I even explained to my kids what they were, they got it. My two year old saw the images on the packaging, picked up the shampoo and soap and said "these are mine Mommy". Both of my kids were excited about having products made especially for them.
In our house our favourite was the Easy Grip Sudzing Bar. The kids loved washing themselves with it as it didn’t slip and slide and they felt all grown up. The easy pump on the foaming products was great too. My 2 year old had no problem getting the soap out herself and it has a feature where you can push and twist to lock so you won’t end up with a huge mess!
All of our testers were impressed by the scent. Some adult products can smell too much like perfume and kids products are nauseatingly sweet. These products had a subtle sweet smell but were not overpowering. As one of the older kid testers proclaimed, "Ah, this smells like heaven!" I found the conditioner was great on my daughter’s somewhat tricky mop and one of our grown up testers who ran out of her own conditioner used the Buddies product and was impressed at how well it performed on adult hair.
All of the kids agreed that the packaging was great. They were excited that these products were made especially for them and the parents were impressed by the product itself.
A few minor issues, one of our little testers has eczema and, as with most perfumed soaps, she had a reaction to the Buddies products. Also, the boys in our panel were very reluctant to use the no more tangles spray as the bottle is pink and their is an image of a girl on the packaging. Hey, this may be a great product idea for Johnson’s – no more tangles spray for boys!
Urbanmoms.ca definitely gives our stamp of approval on these well thought out products that make bath time even more fun! Thanks to all of our product testers for their input.
