I had to. I HAD TO! I had to go back and look at my post from last year on resolutions and see how I did.
Well… what did Meatloaf say? One out of five ain’t bad? Ah close enough. So. I did read way more this year than last. But I also found Netflix in the last two months. So I should alter it to – watch less network tv or watch less TV on the actual TV. The rest I failed at. Budget? nope. Beautiful hands? Nadda. More time with my girls? No – and this is the one that makes me the angriest. And write a book? Hell no. I think that will be my retirement plan.
I guess I’m like everyone else. I start off the year with great intentions and they don’t really materialize. So my #1 resolution this year? To make some ‘intentions’ and stick to them!
They are a little more pie in the sky and have come from reflecting over the last two weeks about my perpetual grumpy state and unrelaxed shoulders.
1. Start meditating again. When I broke my ankle a number of years ago, I took a meditation class and loved it. Look, I’m not talking about turning my basement into an ashram and booking off an hour a day – I’m talking about 15 minutes after Will goes to bed, to stop and breathe. Or find a boardroom during the day, kick off my shoes Costanza style, close my eyes and breathe.
2. Stop dressing like a slob at work. Today, I’m sitting here in a toque and a sweater that could fit four people in it. My hair hasn’t been washed in three days and my boots could be worn by the captain of a sled dog team. I need to put some effort in.
3. Back on my food and exercise kick. No brainer. Actually excited for this. I have a 200k bike ride coming up. Need to get this ass in shape (and find an ass pillow for that bike).
Stop being afraid. Ask for what you want. Don’t play games.
4. Lastly. Stop being afraid. Ask for what you want. Don’t play games. Be direct. This is true for all aspects of my life – (non-existent for now) love life; work and with my family and friends. I’m going to be 45 years old this year. I’m no longer an insecure 15 year-old.
Oh and lastly. Write more. Wow, it’s been a slow couple months on that and oh how I’ve missed it.
Happy 2014! Every year I say it … but I’ve rarely felt it ’till now… I feel like this one is going to be epic.
