Pounds Lost: 18.4
YES!
I exceeded my own expectations this week: I lost 2.2 pounds on my second week of vacation, and weighed in under 200 pounds! At this point in my journey – my first major milestone – I thought it would be fun to tally up some interesting facts:
1. I now weigh just 3 pounds more (give or take) than I did when I got married. Hmmm…maybe I’ll go try on the dress again; just for fun…
2. Incidentally, that’s also the same weight I was when I got pregnant the first time.
3. Even better, it’s about 5 pounds less than I weighed when I got pregnant the second time 🙂
4. I am within striking distance of my “10% goal” – at 21.7 lbs down (another week or two) I’ll have lost 10% of my initial body weight – enough to realize significant health benefits!
5. I am about 1/3 of the way to my ultimate weight loss goal!
It’s great to give yourself a pat on the back once in a while (okay, more than once in a while), especially when you’re working towards a big goal that’s going to take some time to reach. But if I don’t, I’ll lose sight of my successes – and I truly believe it’s been my (and my weight-loss and life-partner’s) constant celebrations of the little victories and positive mental outlook that have made this journey so successful and, yes, enjoyable.
Yesterday I was looking through our outdoor gear to find my water belt for running, and I came across my size 16 ski gear. This past season I’ve had to practically duct-tape myself into the pants – opening the vents not for air flow but increased thigh room! I couldn’t resist – so I tried them on. You know what? I could take those pants off without even undoing the button. I was so pleased with myself I just about wore them out running! I made a promise then and there, that if I just stuck with this weight loss and saw it all the way through, then I would buy myself a new ski suit this season. I’m looking forward to hitting the slopes in something other than a gigantic michelin woman costume!
So, to my husband who’s on this journey with me every step of the way (he’s down 24 pounds, by the way, and is just about at his 10% goal as well), and to those of you who’ve been sharing your own experiences in the comments – thanks for helping to keep me motivated and positive. Let’s make this the week we all celebrate our own – and each other’s – success. WAY TO GO! YOU’RE AMAZING! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
