A few weeks ago I saw a post by a friend on Facebook about Rainbow Loom.
I had no idea what it was and skimmed over it in my newsfeed.
Then I saw another post by another friend. Then I started noticing several kids wearing rubber band bracelets and figured that must be those Rainbow Loom thingys. Kids from junior kindergarten to grade 5 wearing them. Girls. Boys. Bracelets. Necklaces. Rings. Headbands.
Last week Eva came home with a bracelet and I realized then that I should probably look into this Rainbow Loom. I went to Indigo and purchased the last kit they had and tucked it away, looking forward to giving it to her for Christmas.
Wednesday she came home with another bracelet made for her by a friend. And then yesterday again, with another bracelet made by another friend.
“I wish I had a Rainbow Loom so I could be a good friend and make bracelets for A*, K* and C* like they made for me.” she told me.
I knew I couldn’t wait. I marched upstairs and retrieved the hidden Loom.
I brought it outside to where she was playing and surprised her.
She dropped her skipping rope. Dropped her jaw and walked over to me with a smile that erased any doubts I had about giving it to her early.
She spend last night bracelet-making and has big plans to make one for everyone in her family for Christmas.
I’m really digging how focused she is, watching her concentrate as she looms and seeing how proud she is of each creation.
Have you been sucked into the Rainbow Loom fad yet?

OMG – so funny, I’m going to give my daughter (she’ 9) her loom as an early Christmas present too. I’m just waiting for her to finish her homework and cleaning her room, because I have a feeling I won’t see her for a while after I give it to her! Also, all her friends said they learned new techniques on YouTube, so I suspect she’ll drain her iPad battery watching the videos.
