Ever think you have had the "BIG IDEA"? Something you could market and sell and would actually make you some money? Well, you just might have but where do you go from here? As most of us have heard, there is a huge trend toward entrepreneurship, especially with moms. However, having the BIG IDEA and turning it into a successful business are two very different things. I have had a bunch of emails over the last few weeks from innovative moms looking for information on how to turn their idea into reality. So, I thought I would take it to the experts…you! Many of you own your own business or have started the process so maybe you can help. Here are the questions. Please include your answers and any other insight in the comments section below. Share the wealth of your knowledge and experience!
- I am looking for ideas on what to do next with a product invention i.e.: patenting, licensing, other legalities, research/design, how to make a prototype, and ultimately seeing it on store shelves which would mean having a manufacturer and marketing it to companies? I would love to see it selling in stores or online? With all the ideas I have come up with late at night…it could possibly parle in a small business!
- I have an idea for a baby product (recent personal experience has got me thinking) but I don’t know where to go from here. How do I find out what to do next? Do I pitch the idea to a company or do I try and get things started on my own? Where can I go for this type of information? I want to protect my idea but need advice.
- I am looking for information on starting my own business. What is the best way to go about this? Are there certain steps I should follow – legally and practically? What advice do you have?
I remember how tough it was to get information and find resources when I was starting urbanmoms.ca and I didn’t have to worry about the developmet of a product. Thanks in advance for sharing and supporting other aspiring business-moms!

Can one purchase this food across the country? I live in Quebec and I have never seen it.

I actually heard about SweetPea on urbanmoms.ca a long time ago and used it often for my son when he was a baby. Now that I am pregnant again I’ll definitely be buying it when the baby is old enough! It is really fresh tasting, like homemade (yes I tasted it!). A great alternative to making it yourself.

What a great idea! As a mom who made every ounce of food for my three boys, I would have loved to have found a company like this, if even for the odd time I needed some extra food, like growth spurts or that phone call from our single (married/no kids) friends.
