Each week we feature a different mom-based business in the urbanmoms.ca Marketplace. This week, we’re pleased to bring you Lucy’s story:
Before having children I automatically assumed that once my family began, I would return to the upper-level management position that I held with a large worldwide company, replete with long hours and travel, because I would be super-Mom, and, besides, daycare was good for children! Once my family actually began, my goals changed drastically. I found someone with similar values and goals during a backyard play date with a neighbour, artist and stay-at-home mother of two, Bea, who formerly (pre-children) had a demanding position in the world of computer animation.
Motivated by the need for family flexibility and inspired by Bea’s art, together we developed Bealoo Kids Décor in an effort to fill the void in the market for funky and fun décor for children’s spaces. We had difficulty attempting to find unique and imaginative art for our own children’s rooms and realized that other parents must have as well. Through the combination of Bea’s artistic flair and talent and my business savvy and design concepts, we have created a line of beautiful, affordable, and unique art and room decor that both parents and children alike will enjoy.
A child’s imagination is stimulated when surrounded by art and colour; our mission is to beautify children’s spaces and to create a fun, fresh and inviting environment in which children’s minds and bodies can grow.
Primarily we sell via the internet on our own website www.bealookids.com and safe sites like etsy, an amazing one-stop shopping site for all things handmade. Selling on the web with a home-based business allows us to focus on family first with the ability to squeeze in work at various points through the day and night. Shopping on the web is also efficient and flexible for busy parents.
Being an entrepreneur with a home-based business in an e-commerce world is such a great way to achieve flexibility, bring extra money into the home, while at the same time, contribute to self growth and society alike. We sincerely hope that parents and children enjoy our art as much as we enjoy creating it!
