Well it’s official. Warner Bros’ has managed to do what fans around the world have been yearning for. An eighth Harry Potter installment. Well, sort of. Warner Bros’ announced that they will split the final book into two parts. Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (due Nov 2010) & Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (due May 2011). David Yates (currently directing Half Blood Prince) will return to direct both movies concurrently. Also returning is screenwriter Steve Kloves (who has written all but one of the movies) & producer David Heyman (who has been involved with the movies from the get-go & was the person who was instrumental in getting Jo Rowling to even agree to let her stories be turned into movies). Daniel Radcliffe (need I even say that he plays Harry Potter?!?) has been quoted as saying that he believes that splitting the book into 2 movies is the only way to tell the story without "cutting out major portions of the book." He seems to be quite delighted about the whole idea, so one can only assume that Warner Bros’ has taken the appropriate steps to ensure that all of the principle actors are on board for an extra movie. Like I said, the two movies will be filmed concurrently, so the only issue should be a slightly longer filming schedule.
So folks, what do you think? Are you excited about an extra Potter movie, or do you think it is just Warner Bros’ way of cashing in on a super-lucrative franchise? My big question is where would they possibly split this up into 2 movies? Let me know what you think!!

I didn’t read the last book and now it looks like I won’t have to because it will all be in the 2 movies 😉 Are those gasps of horror I hear from all of you purists!

Great news!!! Especially after your teaser intro…I thought they were going to make a new 8th movie. Yuck! Will Daniel Radcliffe and gang be 30 when they film the final movie? Just joking.

I am totally all for 2 movies! I was also disappointed at the last one as they are such wonderful stories and end up losing the essence of the characters when they are cut. It definitely worked great with LOTRs and they still had to cut loads so I think it is the best way to tell the story of the final book. Can’t wait!

Laura, your recap just makes me want to go back and read the book again…there’s so much that I have forgotten!
I enjoyed the 5th movie & sort of bought in to the idea that certain things could be sacrificied without losing the overall theme of the story. But my hubby was like you & very disappointed in all of the things left out. I really would have loved to see the visit to St. Mungo’s, that would have been classic!
I also can totally handle a 3 hr movie, but for some reason the brainiacs in Hollywood think that a movie that long won’t do well. Which of course is so preposterous, because all of the movies so far have been well over 2 hrs in length (with 3 well over 2 & 1/2 hrs) & I don’t think they have suffered at the box office. Also, these are no longer “kids” movies, so I don’t think that they need to “pander” to that audience. It may be hard to sometimes keep the pacing of a movie going at over 3hrs, but all you have to do is call one Peter Jackson & ask him how he was able to keep people on the edge of their seats!
In the end I think I’m on board with the 2 movies because Jo Rowling has given it her blessing & believes that it is the best way to tell the conclusion to her epic story. Hey, if it’s good enough for her, it’s good enough for me!!

Two words….Woooooo Hoooooo!! I’m so excited that they are splitting it. I was disapointed in #5 because I felt they left so much out. Honestly, I can handle a 3 hour movie…can’t you?
Okay, in the first movie there could be the WICKED polyjuiced exodus from Privet Drive, Fleur and Bill’s wedding, the escape, a whole lot of the backstory of Albus, the scene with Nagini in Godric’s Hollow would perhaps be a good place to stop. Lots of action in those last scenes. Maybe even the bit about Luna’s house and realizing what the Deathly Hallows are.
2nd movie could have breaking into Gringotts as well as the ministry and the whole Hogwarts bit.
I cannot freakin’ wait!! At least we have number 6 to look forward to this November!!
