It is an important question to ask yourself when you have a goal in mind. Do I need the help of a professional to help me get there? There is an old saying, ‘get a baker to bake your bread, even if he eats half of it’. Simply put, sometimes yes it is better to get professional help, even if it costs you more than if you did it yourself. Speaking from the perspective of nutrition there are a number of good reasons why a qualified nutritionist can be of help, the most obvious of which, we have the technical knowledge to filter through the jargon and the fads and we can give you concrete advise as to what you should do to reach your wellness goals. Best of all we can often pay for ourselves by saving you time and money that may have been spent at fad diet centres, on expensive, ineffective supplements and more.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself if you are still on the fence about seeking the help of a nutritionist:
1) Am I healthy? (is your waist less than 32.5″? is your blood pressure less than 120/80? are your cholesterol levels at a healthy range? do you have regular bowel movements? etc)
2) Do I know what steps to take in order to ‘get healthy’? (many of us say we know what to do but can you really narrow it down into specific steps and into a concrete plan?)
3) Do I have the mental fortitude to follow the steps required of me to reach my health goal? (If you are in the group that knows what to do but just doesn’t do it then you are not alone!)
If you answered no to any of the above then chances are you could benefit from the advise of a professional nutritionist. Not only are they trained on the what to do and why you should do it, a good one will be there to help you with the follow through, often the hardest part of the equation for many.
Have you sought the advise of a nutritionist? Are you on the wall about seeing one? I would love to hear from you!

I have been thinking lots lately about whether it is time for me to seek advice from a nutritionist. I have worked hard over the winter to lose 20 pounds following the weight watchers program and as part of it have become active in an exercise routine. Now that my weight is where I want it to be, I’m looking for direction in how to successfully maintain my weight while keeping in mind my body’s needs due to my exercise levels. I feel like I’m missing the right food balance to enjoy the energy that my activity levels could be giving me.
