I know what you’re thinking. ‘Do I really want to see a movie about an astronaut floating in space?’ Well, after seeing this trailer, you may change your mind.
Gravity is a heart-pounding thriller that pulls its audience into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. It’s one of TIFF’s most anticipated films and early word of mouth from last weekend’s Telluride Festival has been amazing. Oh and there have been glowing reviews from the Venice Film Festival too.
Before I get to the plot of the movie, I should also mention it stars George Clooney and Sandra Bullock and is directed by Mexican director Alfonso Cuarón. His last work was Children of Men back in 2006. He spent the last seven years working on this one. Curious yet?
Bullock plays a brilliant medical engineer accompanied on her first shuttle mission by veteran astronaut played by Clooney. On a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving the engineer and veteran completely alone — tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth… and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But their only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.
Check it out below and see what you think.
Is it Oscar-bait?
