Would you camp out on a New York street for six days to see One Direction? One mom just did. When I read about it I thought she was insane. How ridiculous!
I just saw this woman….and her daughters….and she is a ROCK STAR. All these parents are rock stars. What memories they just gave their kids, not just of seeing One Direction but of a bonding moment between them. Her girls will never forget.
I know this because my mom gave me the same. Twice.
First off, we lined up to see Prince Charles and Lady Diana. Granted, we didn’t camp overnight but we were there early. We were in the front row for their walkabout on Parliament Hill. And it didn’t disappoint. We got to shake hands with BOTH. (Side note – Diana was more beautiful in real life than in pictures. Incredible). Meeting Diana and Charles lasted 30 seconds. The day spent with my mom is burned into my memory. I remember it so well and think of it every time I see the Royals.
The second time. Slightly different. She didn’t wait with me for my idols but she didn’t kill my dream either. Boris Becker was in town for some tennis tournament and I was in love. I thought it was totally reasonable that I invite him over for dinner. Instead of telling me to forget it, she drove me to the hotel where he was staying and let me wait for a few hours to ask him. (Did you know I love you in German is Ich Liebe Dich – likely spelled a different way). When she picked me up, without our dinner guest, she didn’t make fun of me, she just took me home. Probably the first time she helped me mend a broken heart.
So Will. Pick your passion. I promise to help your wishes come true – or at least have a few hours of thinking they will.
For the love of god, please be obsessed with someone decent.
