The theatre, located in North York at 4950 Yonge Street is a tiny gem of a space in the basement of an office tower. It has rows of pillows and a few chairs at the back and caters to kids and school programmes.
It is definitely community theatre, but the actors make it fun for the kids and include some of them in the show itself.
I wish I paid attention to the name of the other school. They had a fairly large special needs class there who were probably middle school age. I am not sure who enjoyed the play more, the 3 and 4 year olds in our rows, the pre-teens across the aisle, or me.
It was such a treat to be on a trip with the Gaffer’s class and she was obviously thrilled to have her mom there, but to get to spend time in a room full of children who exude such innocence and genuine excitement was a great reminder to slow down and appreciate this wonderful time in my child’s life.

Attending a field trip is a wonderful window into your child’s life at school, and how nice you had the opportunity. Last year I was priveledged to be able to attend a field trip for each of my children (Grades 9,8,4 and 1), including a theatre production of an Agatha Christie play, the Calgary Children’s Festival, an art gallery, and a neighboorhood nature walk through the nearby ravine. All were great learning experiences for my children, and for me about my children. I try to go as often as my children want/let me.

I got to go and see a musical adaptation of 4 Robert Munsch stories with my daughter’s grade one class last year…it was great! The theatre field trips are the best. Walking around potentially losing kids and busy zoos and whatnot…not so much.
