It’s Monday morning and I’m still recovering. Saturday night was the big cottage party I have been looking forward to for weeks. We invited a bunch of neighbours to our cottage for a potluck bbq. I couldn’t wait to get to know my fellow cottagers better and maybe find a few pals to hang out with this summer. Here’s how it went:
Saturday – I was so excited I couldn’t sleep last night! My mom picked up the kids after lunch and I spent the afternoon "getting ready". My husband spent the afternoon napping in preparation for a late night. Our first guests arrived around 7:30pm. By 8:15pm we were all sipping cocktails and enjoying some amazing food care of our guests! We chatted, munched, and sipped into the wee hours. I met some great people and got to know others even better.
It was such a great night! It has been a while since I entertained and I forgot how much I enjoy it. It has also been a while since I had adult conversation! I learned so many interesting facts about my neighbours and their respective families and lives. It was fun to get to know new friends and not have to worry about getting to bed on time (although maybe I should have worried more about this as my 3am night on Saturday is still weighing on me today).
But the most amazing part was that I found out I am not the only one battling boredom and lonliness on and off this summer. After chatting with a few other women and realizing we are all up here most of the time we made plans to meet up and keep each other company. What a great night!

Sounds like fun, Emily. It’s interesting. When I read your first article I thought “I couldn’t possibly have anything in common with this rich lady!” but, after reading your latest few I see that no matter how full your pocketbook is we all have the same struggles. I too often feel isolated and lonely being at home. I am trying to meet more women in my community which helps but it is also nice to know that others feel it too.
