words for wednesday- irridescent

If there is a movie you need to see ASAP as a family (it is one of our very favourites) – it is the film called FLIPPED. It is perfection for its character portrayal, its idea of love and perspective, how you fall from it and what we can learn if we are paying attention.

One night the young boy, the object of the main character’s childhood obsession, is out walking with his grandfather, and the grandfather turns to him trying to explain just how wonderful this girl is-

“Some of us get dipped in flat, some in gloss, but every once in a while, you find someone who is irridescent, and when you do nothing will ever compare”

It is in that moment that the obsession flips and the young boy sees the magnificent girl he has never fully appreciated, differently, and it is in that same moment that she comes to the realisation that he might be a complete jerk.* You see, she loves to climb trees and one day she climbs so high she can see the whole world and with that she sees everything differently.

As they say, timing is everything.

As I say, perspective is 9/10ths of the law.

(I promise you- EVERYONE from 8-88 will love this movie.)

*of course he is not a complete jerk but he isn’t the demi god she made him out to be either. Just a boy who needed some time, some growing up and some perspective.
