tonight Tova and i went to a class at the gym. (i know, we’re awesome, right? going – willingly – to the gym at night. during our American Idol-tv-watching time. now that’s what i call dedication!)
rock bottoms and abs or something. it was pretty much exactly like the Winsor Pilates that i do (well…that i did) at home. except that there were 30 other women there. and the teacher kept going off on a tangent about the burning food she was smelling. and i had to be dressed.
(you see, i like to do my pilates in the buff…well, not quite…usually in a bra and underwear. it’s a strange reason, really. but, since i’ve already been revealing…it won’t hurt to reveal a little bit more about myself. i enjoy watching which parts of my body i’m working. when you’re wearing clothing…you can’t really tell.)
i don’t know, i guess i was just expecting something, i don’t know, amazing. i figured that the pilates i do (or did) at home weren’t good enough because i needed someone to push me harder. and i needed someone to tell me what i was doing wrong. or right.
but when it comes down to it, my winsor pilates videos (yes, they are on vhs) are freakin’ awesome. they cost me nothing – i swiped them from my stepdad who considers riding on a 4th of july float exercise – and i’ve yet to find a better workout for my abs and ass. now i just have to get off said ass and DO them.
so, what’s my point in all this? i guess it’s NOT that i’m writing off the gym…no ma’am…i’ve been so good. i’ve been going. thrice weekly. i’ve been going!!! aren’t you impressed?? even on the week that we went to new york on wednesday, i went on monday and on tuesday. i’m committed, ya’ll.
the point is that i’m learning how to use the gym to my advantage. i don’t need the pilates classes or the rock hard body part classes. i should take advantage of what i can’t have at home. which means using the weight machines….gotta love the inner and outer thigh machines. i could spend all day on those…and the cardio machines i don’t have at home. what i really want to take is this hip hop dance class, but i’m a little intimidated by all the coordinated women out there who look awesome out there (i’m not one of them).
and i’m discovering that it’s such a personal thing. what people use and don’t use at the gym. some people have their routines. they come in and do the exact same thing on the exact same days. some people try a little bit of everything. some people love the classes only. some people love the weight training. what about all of you? do you work out at home? at a gym? at work (i just found out that my office has a gym…who knew?)? what do you love about your gym? do you use a personal trainer? go to classes? use weights? i’d love to hear your thoughts!!
song of the day: Smile by Lily Allen. love this song. love this woman. she’s awesome.
video of the day: i can’t stop watching this video. i first read about it on Zach Braff’s site. and now i just can’t turn away. is it real? is it fake? doesn’t it really matter???
come on over and see my at Cheaper Than Therapy. now i’m off to deal with my wheezing baby. oh my god. she’s so sad. and it’s always when the husband’s at hockey. g’night!

What I can’t get at home are CLASSES! I LOVE them! Because the monkey’s going to school during my favourite classes, though, I haven’t been able to go to classes. So, I do the machines and WATCH ELLEN! Which I’m loving. And, this way, I’m in and out in half an hour. I also LOVE my NIA class. I’m still waiting for that darn YouTube vid to load, dammit! Whatup widdat? I’ll have to come back to check it later. 🙂 Good for you for getting to the gym. But, don’t start thinking I think you’re great for going during AI. I know you PVR it! 😉

regarding the song of the day, when you mentioned Smile a few months ago, I downloaded it. It’s become my husbands’s favourite song – which is odd, because he usually has no musical preferance at all.

I’m the first to comment…wow! First I usually workout five times a week at home. We get a channel called FitTV so I record a few shows daily then each morning pick a routine to do. I have a few favorites that I rotate. I enjoy yoga, pilates, low-impact strength training types of exercise. I’m not the go run ten miles kind of girl.
I also enjoy working out at home just because I don’t have to worry about what I’m going to wear to the gym. I usually wear underwear and a t-shirt.
Also Spence showed me the video about a month ago and I say it’s fake.
