ah…the guilty pleasure. those foods. those shows. those movies. and songs. and hairstyles. and clothing. that you are totally mortified to tell anyone that you actually like.
and since it’s a week of me sharing my dirty little secrets, i figured i’d continue the trend and tell you about some of my guilty pleasures.
Game Boy…and once i start, i’m like a 12-year-old boy. i can’t turn it off.
Air Supply…and every star in the sky is taking aim at your eye like a spotlight…the beating of your heart is a drum…ah, i love to sing this in the shower.
She’s All That…the acting is shitty. the plot is completely unrealistic…but there’s something that i heart about freddie prinze, jr. and something that i like about this movie. maybe it’s the falafel hat that she wears at work. classic.
Chocolate licorice…most people turn their noses…but i love ’em. i can eat an entire package in one sitting.
Colin Farrell…i still like him…even after i saw his sex tape…and his pocahontas movie. yeesh.
One Tree Hill…the OC would fall into this category too. shows i’m a decade – at least – too old to be watching but i love them. i love the music. the agony of watching high schoolers deal with their angst.
Facebook…i have only recently discovered facebook. and i might be a decade too old for this one…but there’s something about it that i like. (if you are on facebook, let me know, we can be friends)
watching the real estate market…i want to move. closer to my kids’ school. to a bigger house. a better house. a house with hardwood upstairs. a house that doesn’t have green carpet in the family room. i am constantly checking the houses in the neighborhood and what they sell for. i even check the houses in my dad’s neighborhood. in atlanta.
Saved by the bell…zach morris and kelly kapowski. best. couple. ever.
macaroni and cheese…from the box. yum.
young and the restless…yes. soap operas are campy and silly and stupid. but i love this one. i’ve been watching it since i was a kid and i’m addicted. even when there are ridiculous plot lines – – – like sheila getting plastic surgery to look like phyllis to kidnap fenmore.
We didn’t start the fire…if you’ve seen my posts about the weird things about me…you’ll know that when i can’t sleep, i sing the lyrics to this song in my head. i know them all.
Showtunes…my god, i love me some showtunes. ragtime. oklahoma. les miserables. sound of music. chicago. jesus christ superstar.a chorus line. sweeney todd. phantom. miss saigon. annie. annie get your gun. okay…i’m going to stop now.
Ryan Seacrest…i want Ryan Seacrest. bad.
game shows…i couldn’t even pick a favorite. pyramid. price is right. jeopardy. just NOT deal or no deal.
full house…uncle jessie. "you got it dude". cut. it. out. how rude!! ah, good times, i tell you. good times.
okay…i’ll stop now. there are many, many more. it’s sad, really.
tell me some of yours, please, now. thanks.
song of the day: Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. yes, another guilty pleasure.
video of the day: Christina Aguilera. my god, this girl can SING
i need bottle help. help. please come on over to cheaper than therapy and give me some advice. now. go!

Favourite Neil Diamond song: Cracklin’ Rosie. Best when sung at the top of my lungs.

Try the Carpenter’s Greates Hits – it’s awesome. I too am hooked on every teenage drama out there and am probably 15-20 years older than they are supposed to be…my husband thinks I’m crazy when I turn on the O.C. Icee’s are my fav treat – will actually buy when every time I see the stand just because they are not easy to find & who knows when I’ll have one again.
Jen says
Hey, another one for me…Dirty Dancing! And Footloose! And Flashdance! Did you hear that Dirty Dancing is going to be a stage production…must see that!
Jennifer says
Where to begin??!!! 90210, The OC, Supernanny (watching that show makes me feel so superior…same with Trading Spouses), is Johnny Cash a guilty pleasure? How about Bon Jovi? the bag of Skor bits in my drawer is my guilties pleasure today (esp. after reading Kath’s inspiring post). Sometimes I will spend an entire lunch hour reading the magazines at the drugstore that I can never bring myself to buy.

LOVE this post! Know why?? One of my guilty little pleasures…Christina Aguilera! Dirty, Mulon Rouge, I am Beautiful…l.o.v.e. What a voice! And, not many of us could wear skin-tight white pants and look HOTT!
Love video games – gameboy, gamecube, computer games (I sometimes sneak on to my kids Webkinz and play Cash Cow and earn them some Kinz$$).
I could go on and on…
Amanda says
OH! I absolutely LOVE Neil Diamond!!! My Dad used to play his cassettes in the car when we were little, I grew to love him instead of hate him like most people our age!
Kath says
Sweeney Todd…the demon barber of Fleet! Street! Aaaahahahahaha LOLOLOLOL ROFLMFAO!!! I thought I was the only one who loved that show. There used to be a hair place on Yonge near Lawrence called “Sweeney Todd’s”…hilarious! Oh, I have loads of embarrassing confessions. Game boy is one, but only if the game is one of the Zeldas. Or how about historical mystery novels? But they have to be one of the following 3 eras: Ancient Egypt, Roman Empire, Medieval England. Love.
Haley-O says
It totally cracks me up that you like that Billy Joel song…. Hilarious!
