the Martells are cleaning house.
well, as of this moment, the husband is cleaning house and i’m lying in bed and watching. (ps. i’m not feeling 100% and i had a meeting this evening and am just plain wiped)
everybody has a thing. a thing that they do when angry. some people eat. some people stop eating. some people exercise. my husband – he cleans. he isn’t really angry at me. but…to make a long, silly story short, he was late getting home to i could get to my meeting and i had to leave someone waiting. and i HATE to leave people waiting. so i was mad. and we had words.
so he’s cleaning. i’m trying to think of what i do when i’m angry. what the heck do i do?? Pull a Britney?
i yell. i scream. i NEED to talk about it. i don’t get moody or broody (although sometimes i get foody…nothing cheers me up like a giant chocolate chip cookie!) i shop. shop. shop. shop. i mean, i’m not like Katie Holmes being let loose in Barney’s…but i can hold my own in the mall.
but, truth be told, that was our plan in general anyway. spring cleaning.
we are cluttered by all the clutter. toys. clothes. the five bags we unpacked from our trip (yes. 5) . books. books. books. mail and papers. things we have never used and will never use. ugly pieces of pottery we got as weddings gifts. computer wires. old cds that we don’t have the heart to toss. all my blanket stuff. my scrapbooking. it never ends.
project #1 is the bedroom. the closet. the bathroom. the computer desk. the nightstands (okay…is this an American/Canadian thing…the husband calls ’em bedside tables!! or maybe it’s because his parents are British?) the blankets. the scrapbooks.
i decided i need a craft room. think the kids will mind doubling up so i can have my own blanketing room???
do any of you out there Spring Clean? what prompts it? i think a lot of what’s prompting us is the arrival of our new nanny. we want to try to clean up and clean out all the junk before she comes. it’s all part of our fresh start.

I clean when I’m mad too. I also brood too much, sulk, act very moody & give the silent treatment. I am generally quite a big baby when I’m angry – lol! I sound crazy now that I said that out loud…not very proud of myself. I de-clutter every other month or so. I have been know to get rid of important papers and children’s toys – oops.

It’s school holidays now so have been home with the boys for a few days (Divine Miss M. is still at daycare) and I have been decluttering my heart out. Have done the toy room and filled up 2 enormous green garbage bags with broken shit, Macca’s toys, etc. and reorg’d everything and have cleaned up the office, although I still need to scrapbook all the kids paintings and special stuff and do up online photo albums and real photo albums (5 years worth of stuff, yikes).
Have also done the seasonal clothes changeover – summer to winter.
My big tip to declutter: get a crazy cleaning lady and ebay like mad (have just listed 50 items tonight) – it is amazing what people will buy.
Re bedeside tables – we call ’em that here, I think it is a Canadian/British/Australian thing.
Ali, look on the bright side: at least your DH cleans, mine doesn’t do a bloody thing around here (he reads motorbike mags when he is made at me or watches Fuel TV) :(((

Bedside table. It’s a table. It’s at your bedside. ‘Nuff said.
But the real question is: Glove Compartment or Glove Box? DH and I have a running debate on that one, to the point that we’ve taken to calling it the “in-dash storage drawer”, LOL.
