We have become experts in the tag team. especially on sundays. because we both work full time, we use the weekends to both spend some great concentrated time with the kiddies and to get everything done. you add in a few birthday parties and some extra-curriculars and our weekends become jam-packed.
usually, on sunday mornings, i take the girls and the husband takes Josh. i drop Emily off at ballet and do the food shopping with Isabella. and usually have time to stop at Starbucks for a coffee. sweet. it works nicely for everyone. although sometimes i enby the husband because not only is josh easier than Isabella to shlep around The Superstore, i also would love to spend some mommy and josh time. because it’s so rare.
so, this week, i decided to take Josh instead. i was a little nervous – – -mostly because my son has christened every public toilet in the city…and we are not just talking about pee. and he’s not picky either (synagogues, gas stations, malls, grocery stores). and he is NOT like his sister (who gets her insane hygienic bathroom habits from me). he’s so gross. he’ll touch the seat, the handles, he knows very little about toilet seat covering and flushing with your foot. clearly, he wasn’t toilet trained by his mother. or his sister.
(good thing mommy always has purell with her. moms with boys need purell)
but, i made sure he tried about 45 times before we left the house, hoping that pit stops wouldn’t be necessary.
and they weren’t. it was a great morning. Josh is easy to please. you give the kid a carton of chocolate milk and the kid is in seventh heaven. Isabella around food is like a junkie in a crack house. she wants some of everything. bagels. apples. oranges. cookies. pretzels. anything she sees…she wants. also..she requires a lot of lifting. and as i see it, she and her brother pretty much weigh the same amount. only he walks on his own.
we talked about power rangers and Star Wars and about his favorite websites. we talked about his girlfriend (daniella) and his best friend (kyra…but he also really likes Justin). we talked about his spiderman bicycle and about going to camp. on the bus!
Emily has always been a mama’s girl and Josh a daddy’s boy. until recently. Josh has been very into me. very cuddly and kissy and huggy without being asked. and i’ve been getting lots of unsolicited "i love you mommys" and "you’re da best"s.
he’s a sweet, sweet boy…that is, erm, when he’s not killing fish with toothpaste and peeing on his floor and stuff.

It is such a joy to have those moments! I took my son out for lunch, just mommy and her boy, last week. I got the scoop on everything from friends to girls to hopes and dreams. He even came over and sat on my lap for a while. So special.

Even though my youngest is only 11 months old it is amazing to see how different his behaviour is when his older brother is not around. Both my boys are a delight one on one, it’s when I’m alone with both of them that the terror begins – o.k terror may be a strong word here…On Saturday AM I took both to Yorkdale, alone, and they were really a delight. It was my best shopping trip so far!

Isn’t it amazing how wonderful our kids are when they’re one-on-one?! As another mom to three, those “single child” moments are infrequent, but such a treat. Like you, it’s my middle child who relishes his mommy time these days, and whether we’re running errands together or playing webkins, I enjoy my Connor-time as much as him!
