i watched this movie this weekend:
wow. this movie had so much potential. great cast. great premise. but…this movie just didn’t deliver. it was so bad. first of all, calling it a comedy is a bit of a stretch. there were, mabye three funny lines in the entire movie, and all three showed up in the trailer. Sure, there were some good messages in the film…such as taking the time to enjoy your life while you’re living it…even the crappy, sucky parts. i get it. but through the entire movie, all i could think was…
wow! Sean Astin sure has aged!
when i was a kid, i was downright obsessed with those Astin brothers.
Sean, from his Goonie days:
and Mackenzie from his Facts of Life stint:
i was over the moon. i had the Bop and Teen Beat and Tiger Beat posters up on my door, along with the likes of Corey (Haim, of course, i so wasn’t into Feldman. ew.)
Kirk:
joey:
the other Joey:
Emilio:
Rob:
there were many more embarrassing obsessions i had in my adolescence.
but now…every single one of these ‘teen hearthrobs’ is, well, old. with the exception of Rob Lowe, of course, who is still f-ing gorgeous.
he’s still so very pretty. so pretty.
they are balding…and have beer bellies…but when i was 13, wow, they were "it" for me. i would buy the magazines and read everything. did you know that Rob’s favorite drink is coke? and that Joey Lawrence prefers briefs to boxers? and, oh, i bet you didn’t know that Mackenzie’s favorite meal is spaghetti and meat balls. but not Sean! no! he likes pizza! i knew endless, mindless, pointless information about all of these guys.
what about you? any preteen loves?
any men out there? the husband had…and still has…a thing for Alyssa Milano. you?

Childhood obsessions…hmmmmmm…What about “Alex: The Life of a Child” and that silly skating movie with the figure skater and the hockey player? Sisters remember everything 🙂

I LOVED Ethan Hawke. I even wanted to write to him….
I liked Click! 😛

Oh my. How young are you gals? My teenaged heart-throbs are definitely more in the LoriD, Iris, Jen and Lavendula generation. Goonies. I was DRIVING already when that movie came out. Yeesh.
Gawd, I’m old. I had a poster of David Cassidy once, and Xanadu was my fave record, along with “Shake Your Booty” by KC and the Sunshine Band. I loved it mostly ’cause KC were my initials 🙂 As an older teen, it was Billy Idol, David Bowie (Modern Love), Simon LeBon. Plus of course the guy who played the romantic lead in “Sixteen Candles” (loved all those John Hughes flicks)
DH had (and I maintain he still does, although he denies it) a thing for Alicia Silverstone. A la “Clueless”…mind you, were were both in our mid-twenties when that one came out. Can you even BELIEVE it?
LAVENDULA says
oh donny osmond, bobby sherman, the cassidy bros.,leif garrett, the rolling stones…
Jen says
LOVED the Outsider boys but my big thing was for John Taylor from Duran Duran and George Michael (pre-outage). My hubby had and still has a thing for Demi Moore!

i LOVED jonathan brandis. in ladybugs! remember that movie??
Katt says
Mine was Jonathan Brandis from seaQuest. LOVED him. I found out about 3 years ago that he committed suicide…that’s depressing.
I think my hubby still has a thing for Sandra Bullock.

Scott Baio, & Leif Garrett were also it for me. Oh, remember Jimmy McNichol? Him too. Then it was George Micheal from Wham, before he came out – lol!
Laural says
Ohhh!
Those pictures brought back fond fond memories.
I have to admit to make the list perfect I would have added Jordan (NKOTB) and also Jason Priestly.
But I really, really loved Joey from Blossom. In fact, it was why I loved the last season of Dancing with the Stars (though what was with the lack of hair?)
And, I would add Kurt Browning to the list. (I know – that’s a funny one).
PS My husband (I hope he doesn’t read this) was in love with Kimmie Gibler from Full House. And still is.
Iris says
I am really going to date myself here. Remember, I am 40…..I was in love with Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett and Scott Baio. I know there had to be others too, but those are the main ones. OH, wait, when I was young there was a Canadian show with a French Canadia singer, Rene Simard……. all us girls loved him!! We all thought he was so cute, and with his French accent…. is it any wonder I am in love with a Frenchman now??? Of course, my daddy was French too.

I was such an akward kid, I didn’t really have a thing for anyone, besides maybe Saved by the Bell Zach Morris, Mark-Paul Gosselaar. But even then I really was SO akward and wasn’t like “oh he’s sexy” or anything. I didn’t have any friends really growing up, no girlfriends, since we moved every year and a half, so my younger sisters were my best friends, so my development wasn’t really as quick to pick up on boys. My experience was always to think older men were sexy from old movies… like… (this is so sad, but it’s true) Marlon Brando from Guys and Dolls and Harrison Ford from Star Wars. So silly for a thirteen y/o to think that!! But… I still think they are sexy. I blame my mom for me liking older men. Of course, now I’m dating a guy who I’m 18 months older than… so… whatever!
LoriD says
I loved all “The Outsiders” boys. I saw C. Thomas Howell in a movie not long ago and he’s still really cute.
Sleepynita says
For me no one but Corey “Iwear my sunglasses at night” Hart was good enough (in grade3/4).
Then I graduated to Donnie Walberg and Kirk Cameron.
Sad
Now I just want the croatian Doctor from ER and Tyler FLorence from fodd 911.
