Planning a vacation in the summer can be challenging. Finding a spot that offers a variety of activities for both kids and adults, whether it’s a week or just a couple of days away, can be exhausting.
I had the opportunity to spend the last few days at Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood, Ontario enjoying a few (there are lots) of the activities the area and resort have to offer, all while spending the nights fully immersed in the heavenly king sized bed at the Westin Trillum Hotel.
It was literally a well balanced and exceptionally fun adventure.
One personal highlight was the opportunity to finally try a Segway, the futuristic personal transportation device quickly gaining traction as a mainstream way to get around.
After a brief lesson with a remarkably charming guide Mary Beth, I quickly learned that the Segway was intuitive, sensitive, a bit intimidating and totally fun – not unlike my adventure partner Tracey.
We spent a solid hour weaving along wide roads and narrow forested paths, at the top of Blue Mountain no less, gaining confidence with every turn, making our way back to the starting hut just before the skies opened up on us. It was awesome.
With one son creeping into tween and teenage years, we are constantly looking for something more for him to do in the summer than trudge to the convenience store to inhale an orange slush. While the Segway adventure is geared to the older child, 16 years and up, it is just one of the many family-based activities available up at Blue Mountain.
I will touch on more of these in the posts to follow.

I had a blast – Jason and Mary Beth both had me feeling secure on that robot… but it was an excellent adventure – rain and all!!

This looks like a ton of fun but I have to admit to feeling a bit chicken about actually getting on one!
