Emily: You’d miss me if i moved away, right?

Me: Of course!

Emily: well, lucky for you, i’m not going anywhere. i’m staying here forever. because i’m never getting married. ever.

Me: okay. but you don’t want to make me a grandmother?

Emily: i can still be a mom and have kids without being married.

Me: Oh, really. Who told you that?

Emily: {rolls eyes} Mommy, everyone knows that.

Yah…my daughter (4) either wants to marry her big brother or her little girlfriend. I remember until I was about 8 wanting to marry my male cousin. He was my bestfriend!

I love how kids are so unburdened with all the social taboos we take for granted!
Reminds me of the time my oldest daughter (then 4) asked me if she could marry her best friend (also a girl). You know, in their minds it was just, I love this person and wouldn’t it be so cool to have a house and a life together?
FWIW, I told them they were more than welcome to get married if it was what they both still wanted to do when they were all grown up, but usually girls want to marry boys and boys want to marry girls.

That is better than thinking just because one is getting married means they are pregnant like peoples children.

Ha! My (unmarried) nanny is pregnant. My 6yo said “she’s going to have a baby? I didn’t even know she was married” I just said “there are a lot of things you don’t know.” She runs with a pretty straight crowd. 😉
