Candace and her daughter Shannon made “spiderweb” cupcakes for her nephew’s 6th birthday! Looks like Shannon is the professional taster!
Urbanmoms, check out Candace’s great tips for baking with kids:
1. Start early! Even at 2 years old, my daughter could stand on a step stool and watch what I do – from a safe distance. Now that she is almost 3, I let her pour ingredients into the mixing bowl after I have measured them out. It takes longer, but it’s much more fun!
2. Focus on the end results! Even if you were a dedicated "from scratch" baker before you had kids, don’t be afraid to use mixes and store-bought items to speed up the process. When kids can enjoy the finished product quickly, they’ll be more interested in baking with mom (or dad or grandma, etc).
Urbanmom Charlotte shares her story of how she cherishes the time her daughter Ashley gets to spend baking with her grandma, now how determined is this little lady?
Charlotte writes: "We have to fly over 3000 miles for our daughter, Ashley to make cupcakes with her Grandma. So the morning after we arrive, I wake up and come downstairs to the picture perfect scene of my mother baking with my daughter Ashley. I love this photo…Ashley was so involved on the task of cracking eggs and listening to her Gran, that she didn’t even know I was awake.
Now that’s a wonderful memory!"
Pictures should include you baking with your children, and can be accompanied by a short (50-100 words) story describing the picture and/or your tips and ideas for baking with kids. Send your submissions to Allison at: allison@urbanmoms.ca. The Cupcake Challenge contest dates are March 28 – April 16, 2007.
