I apologize for not posting more lately. It is getting down to the wire now as far as our big move to Winterpeg! 20 days and counting!
Pretty much everything business-wise has been put on hold to
a) pack (not that I’ve actually started yet, besides having empty boxes scattered around the house, and the place being a complete disaster),
b) look for a place to rent in Winnipeg, and
c) figure out how we’re getting all our stuff to Winnipeg without spending a fortune.
Item b is finally done (yay). After finding 3 potential places, and all 3 falling through at the last minute, we were convinced that Winnipeg hated us, and we’d never find a place. We envisioned living on the streets and begging for food while Derrick finishes his PhD.
Fortunately, it looks like it won’t come to that. No, this is not the house where we will be living. But, the place we will be living in is very close to Winnipeg’s famous Wellington Crescent, home to the most beautiful mansions you can imagine.
So at least that part of our problem is solved. Now on to the next one.
While our place will be furnished (we are leaving all our stuff in storage here in Vancouver), how do we transport all our clothes, toys, computers, etc. and 2 kids in our little Honda Civic?
So far, the solutions we have come up with, all of which have been ditched for one reason or another are
- In-laws drive with us in their car. This would have allowed for more room for stuff, and more help with the kiddos
- Rent a moving truck, and have hubby drive the truck and me drive for 3 days in our car with 2 kids (one of who is NOT good in the car)
- Do #2 above, and have a friend or family member drive with me and the kids, then fly him or her back to Vancouver
- Pack up our car and have hubby drive it to Winnipeg by himself, while me and the kids fly
None are really that great. All are expensive. The best solution so far, as I see it?
A new car! Honda CRV to be precise. This way we could get a hitch and tow a small trailer behind us. OK, so agreeably, not the best time to buy a new vehicle (when we’re students), but we wanted to get a bigger car at some point anyway…
On a TOTALLY different note, The Savvy Mom Entrepreneur of the Year contest is running, and if you feel
so inclined, would you head over to the Savvy Mom website and cast a quick vote for Fussy Baby and I? I can’t believe I’m even asking, but the prize is just too good not to try for 🙂

Moving to Winnipeg!! My old hometown…actually I grew up 30 miles north of Winnipeg…then moved to Winnipeg then moved to Missouri!
Anyway I do know about Wellington Crescent b/c my grandma used to be the housekeeper for one of those mansion owners. We would visit grandma when we were girls and had so much fun exploring the house…though I have not been in that house for about 32 yrs I could still give a pretty accurate map of the interior – I can still see it all in my mind and would LOVE to visit that house again someday.
