Okay not yet, but I’m starting to get into full vacation excitement mode.
Last year, Will and I took a New York state roadtrip. We visited friends on Long Island, in Manhattan and in Rochester. It was an amazing trip – except for that night Will peed on my friends new couch – oh well, he’s toilet trained now.
The fact that I’ve been shlepping Will everywhere since he was about two weeks old has made him a perfect little travel companion. He’s very adaptable, will sleep anywhere and loves to experience new things. I hope this continues.
This summer, we’ve eased into our summer with a great weekend at The Viamede Resort in the Kawarthas (more on that later) and starting this weekend, our insane summer of fun kicks into high gear!
So what’s on tap?
1. This weekend – Will can cross #4 off of his ‘places I want to go list’ when we go to my friends Jodi & Ryan’s cottage on Georgian Bay. It is one of my favourite spots in the world. And now that I don’t have to worry about Will falling down a rock cliff, I’m bringing back the 4pm G&Ts!
2. July 4th – We head down to Rochester to the Odenbach spa – aka my friends Sandra & Fritz’s epic 4th of July party. Will announced last week that if he can’t marry me, the only person he’ll marry is Whitney, their college age daughter. Needless to say, I’m not sure who is more excited about our trip there.
3. Blue Mountain! We come back from Rochester and I slow down in front of my sister’s just long enough to toss the kid and his blankies out and then it’s up to Blue for the UrbanMoms retreat! I can’t wait to spend a few days with the girls and Jason at Blue. I vow to get a picture of Sonya on some high ropes.
4. Our week off – After Blue, I head back to work for a few days, then we’re off on our vacations. I say vacations because we’re taking separate ones this year. Gulp. Will is going to spend most of a week with my aunt and uncle in Ottawa! They generously offered to take him and give me some time. I’m heading to the Eastern Townships – to Will’s namesake/place Sutton. He’s excited to eat Fruit Loops aka vacation cereal and I’m looking forward to being able to spend some quiet time and to visit the cemetery where my Mom and grandmother are buried. Okay and maybe a party night at the Knowlton Pub?
This is going to be AWESOME! What isn’t going to be awesome? Trying to fit in the triathalon training! Guys – I’ve been really good. I swim and run three times a week and bike a few. I even ran in that revolting heat today!! But I know me. Vacation me would rather sit in a beach chair and quaff back a few cold beers, take a nap, eat dinner, drink some wine and go to bed. I’ve borrowing a bike rack and a wetsuit from my friend Lindsay, so I have really good intentions…..but what do they say about intentions? Something about a road from hell or something? I see the road from hell as the one I have to do this effing running on.
So. Tell me. What are your vacation plans this summer AND how do you stick to your workouts when your routine is out of whack. Give me some advice on how to stick to it!!! Oh and how to focus until it all starts????

On my vacation list this summer – Captiva and Sanibel Islands in Florida and NYC, both with my husband only, then Bald Head Island, NC with Jennifer (Trend Watch) and her gang for some beach and fun, then finally, the cottage for a week at the end of the summer. Can NOT wait!

jealous of your blue trip! have a great time 🙂 and very proud of you for keeping up your training. i can’t wait to hear your results of the triathlon.
we go out east every year to visit family. i’ve complained in the past that our vacation is visiting his family but there’s something nice about being an “insider” when we go 🙂
