Making Memories to Last a Lifetime

June 13, 2013 by Kath 6 Comments

Birthdays are special. I firmly believe this.

Many of my most enduring childhood memories have to do with birthdays:

  • The time I had such bad tonsilitis on my fifth birthday that I had to be taken to the emergency room partway through the party. The kids all stayed and ate hotdogs, cake and ice cream, and my sisters had to open my presents for me. marshmallowcakes
  • The years (there were more of them than I’d like to admit) that I thought the fireworks were all for me (my birthday falls on the Victoria Day weekend).
  • The angel-food-marshmallow-fluff cakes.
  • The chocolate cakes with coins inside and jam filling. Also: the little toothpick in the side of the cake to mark where the silver dollar was hidden (that one was reserved for the birthday girl).
  • The balloons stuck to the walls with nothing more than static electricity generated by vigourous hair-rubbing.

So I’ll freely admit I tend to go all out when planning parties for my girls, because I want them to have as many great birthday memories as I have.

“I want them to have as many great birthday memories as I have.”

And last weekend was no exception. My youngest is turning ten (it’s a big deal, don’t you know) and she wanted a “hollywood glamour” party. So we put on our thinking caps and brainstormed ideas, and a vision was born.

And memories were made. I think the pictures say it all.

This is one happy newly-minted ten year-old!
manicures all around!
Breathe. It might be all a little bit too much right now…

The birthday girl rockin’ it out!
Glamourous birthday hairdo
Greeting the fans!

The view from here is pretty good…
Just like Hollywood stars!
A fancy dinner…

Memories being made
Superstars leaving the limo. Didn’t even matter that it rained all day!
What? Three boyfriends???

Aw, she looks so happy. I’m going to try to remember this post next time I grumble about organizing one of my kids’ parties.

if one can’t make one’s child feel spectacular on at least one day of the year, you aren’t doing your job. she will remember these days forever! happy birthday!
