You Say You Want a Resolution??

December 31, 2012 by Sara

You do?  From me?  Okay I’ll give you some but I can guarantee I won’t stick to them.

This year, I’d like to
a. make and stick to a budget
b. stop my horrid habit of picking my fingers
c. watch less TV and read every night
d. start to write a book
e. see my girls Molly, Jodi and Christie MORE
There you go.  Not hard right? Well, I’m not sure any will happen but I’m going to give it a shot – especially ‘e’ – it’s important to me.  But realistically? This year?  It’s 2013.  I will turn 44 years old.  It’s a lead in to 2014.  4 is my lucky number.  I think it’s going to be a good year.
What do I want from it?  I want to just be happy.  Slow down.  Enjoy my kid.  Enjoy my health.  Enjoy my incredible friends – my girls, my other girls, my paddle friends, my neighbourhood friends, my family.  I just want to slow down and be thankful.  There was a lot of crappy things that happened in 2013 both in the world and to those close to me.  It’s made me incredibly appreciative of what I have and uber-aware of how fast it can all change.

So that’s it for me.  I really hope I can stop with the fingers…but I know I can just ‘be’.  That will be easy.  A year filled with  moments like this.
What about you?  2013?  What are you hoping for??

Sara, I’ll come out of the closet too. I pick and bite my fingers. I seem most partial to my middle fingers (is that funny?) and thumbs, but I’ll go whole hog sometimes and bite every nail down to the quick as well as pulling, picking and biting the skin on every one of my fingers. That’s when I know I’m REALLY stressed out.
So far I’ve never found anything that works. My poor fingernails are so thin and damaged from all the years of abuse that I’m afraid to try gel or shellac for fear it will damage them even further. I don’t go for manicures because the ladies always make scolding comments so it’s too embarrassing.
Let me know if you find something that works!

I’ll have to look at the gel – thanks for saying that you share the same habit! Makes me feel better – I seriously feel like a freak sometimes! I don’t tend to chew them so I don’t think the gel will work – Tracey – maybe I should do the mani. Hmmm.
Mine are restricted to my thumbs. I’m thinking of knitting little thumb covers…no I’m not kidding….:)

Maybe you make a standing nail appointment for yourself for a while? Try…
Happy New Year, my darling Edith Lunchbox… xoxoxox

I too and a fellow finger picker/biter/gnawer and have found that getting gel polish put on really helps me keep my fingers out of my mouth. It’s a painful, awful habit that I know all too well and I hope you can kick it to the curb this year!
Best of luck with your hopes…they all sounds fabulous and if anyone can pull them off, it’s you!
