This time it was going to be different.
When I began my journey with Weight Watchers my intent was to lose 15lbs. At the time it was a daunting task. I was focused and determined to stay on track but I also knew that I could be easily distracted and derailed. This time it was going to be different. Weight Watchers’ new 360 program – a holistic approach to weight loss – has shown me success in more ways than one. Not only did I reach my 15lb goal, I also have a much greater understanding of my own triggers and how I can continue to be a healthier me.
During the last few months working with Weight Watchers I have spoken to many women both online and in person about their feelings surrounding their physical selves. What has amazed me is that every woman I spoke to seems to be working towards a more positive outlook and a stronger focus on health. Some are obviously further along on the road to health but every single one of them is trying.
What I learned from those who are well into their journey is that the first step to a healthy body is a healthy attitude. Accepting your body doesn’t mean giving up. In fact, it is the opposite. Instead of always criticizing and seeing fault one of these women told me that we need to “love our body healthy.”
I am on a journey to appreciate my body for what it does for me and acknowledge that this is the body that I have – tall, strong, and able – and for that I am grateful. This is the body that birthed two beautiful children and continues to nurture and love them. This is the body that will carry me through to the end and I want to take good care of it.
What I learned is that the first step to a healthy body is a healthy attitude.
Instead of looking critically at my body I am trying to look lovingly on it. Like any treasured thing I want to do what is best to keep my body healthy and me happy in it.
Weight Watchers has been a huge part of this shift in thinking. Unlike fad diets, I don’t feel deprived on Weight Watchers. Instead I feel in control. I am making decisions for myself based on a foundation of what is healthy. I am consciously thinking about what I put into my body and learning to think about long-established habits and behaviours.
I know that the shift from being critical about my body to being supportive of it is the key to long-term health and happiness. But old habits die hard and sometimes we need a little help along the way. Aside from the supportive and inspiring people I have spoken to I know that I have Weight Watchers to keep me in the right frame of mind as I develop new habits and work towards long-term healthy living. And it’s all because of three very simple ideas: tracking, spaces and routines – the pillars of the 360 program.

awesome! i like the way this program sounds. usually when i hear of these programs it’s about not eating food but from what you say it’s about understanding the food you eat. whether or not one needs to lose the weight i think that is something everyone can benefit from.
