I’ve mentioned before how excellence in music video makes me positively giddy. Performance and artistry and kickin’ music… I love it all.
Janelle Monáe is a twenty-seven year old dynamo from Kansas. She looks like she could be Diahann Carroll’s granddaughter. She sounds and dances like she was raised by Prince. And James Brown. And maybe by all The Jacksons, too. And this track in particular features Erykah Badu on it, which is never a bad thing in my books. The girl is a TALENT, I tell you. Check out this new ear-and-eye candy she made… listen closely.

She may also look familiar to you since she’s one of the faces of CoverGirl.
Sidenote: I love this girl’s style so hard… if I had the desire (and patience) to grow my hair, I’d wear a horse’s mane, and probably coif it in a huge pompadour in front a lot of the time. #truth

Ms Monae is a very talented and classy woman. The first time I saw her Dianne Carroll immediately came to mind. If you look at the pictures of Ms Carroll when she was young, it is a remarkable resemblance in bone structure, lips, nose etc. Being a mid 50’s male, I actually remember Ms Carroll’s beauty from back in the day.
I agree, Bob – and isn’t her similarity to Ms Carroll uncanny?! Gorgeous, I say. (And being an early- 40’s female, I remember watching re-runs of the tv show “Julia” that must have come on in the afternoons while I was with a babysitter…)
In any case, I hope Janelle just continues to rise – there’s nothing stopping her!
