I don’t want to paint the world with one huge brush stroke so let me start by being clear. A lot of the girls from MTV’s Teen Mom, and other teen mothers who have not experienced fame and fortune because of it, have gone to do great things, raise their kids in healthy, happy environments and set wonderful examples for them.
And I really try hard to not judge a mother on the choices she makes because I am not her, her children are not my children and everyone needs to parent in a way that works for your family.
But (I am sure you saw that one coming) I really can’t get behind Teen Mom OG star Farrah Abraham’s latest statements about her six-year-old daughter Sophia.
Sophia has started to lose her baby teeth and it seems that she is struggling a bit with the whole process. Not because of the pain and discomfort that comes from losing your teeth, but because she is feeling the pressure to look “pretty perfect” like her cosmetically enhanced mother.
Just a reminder, Sophia is six!
“My little Sophia, she’s been going through a hard time right now losing all of her teeth, and she’s not really so secure,” the 24-year-old mother told Us Weekly. “I think it’s really a struggle losing your teeth right now when everyone’s looking at looks. So she lost her first big tooth, and she’s just like ‘Mommy, I want teeth like yours!’ and I’ve had my teeth cosmetically done, so they’re looking pretty perfect.”

Barf! That whole statement is just too much. I mean, since when is six the magical age that people start “looking at looks”?
Keep in mind that this is the mother who waxed her three-year-old’s unibrow, so I suppose I shouldn’t be so shocked.
Abraham went on to talk about Sophia and the potential for her to get plastic surgery:
“You’ll see that my daughter does value how I’ve done my look and invested in myself, and I feel like if [plastic surgery is] not harming her and making her look better, and keeping her healthy into her older years, I have no issues with that. I’m going to be supportive because it hurts me to see my daughter worrying about her looks, even while she’s losing her teeth right now, so that’s sad.”
YOU’RE DAUGHTER IS SIX!
In one shining light of hope at the end of an otherwise very dark tunnel, Abraham spoke a little about Sophia and how she feels about her:
“I think my daughter looks beautiful regardless if she’s losing her baby teeth or if she’s having a bad hair day. I really embrace everything about my daughter,” Abraham said. “I think she’s so perfect, gorgeous, and [I’m] thankful to God I have her. I encourage her to just look past some of those things.”
Well hopefully she sticks with that last sentiment instead of the previous thoughts she so happily shared with the public.
