The Cheerleader!

After all these back and forth posts on nighttime toilet training, the boy decided last weekend that he was done with diapers.  We’ve done a ton of laundry (did I say ‘we’??) BUT we’ve also had two dry nights.  Including one where he ate asparagus for dinner and ended up in my bed….I was dreading the outcome of that one let me tell you.  But when he woke up dry….I went bananas for him.  There was cheering, there was dancing, there were high fives and of course, there were stickers on the fridge.  Who would have thought that not sleeping in your own urine would bring about such celebrations.  Think about your time as a parent…think of all the things that you have made a major production about that if you had been interviewed over a beer at a pub in your twenties you would have NEVER imagined!

1. Graduating from….the infant room, the toddler room, the preschool room…that’s about three graduations and he hasn’t even completed one term of JK.  But WOOHOO.

2. Pooping in the potty.  I’ll admit. This was my biggest celebration.  In Florida, he had my dad, my stepmom and me all dancing.  There was a gigantic ice-cream sundae.  There was much celebrating. All for a kid deciding it’s way more pleasant to poop in a toilet as opposed to in his own pants.
3. Identifying the sounds that animals make.  I’m not sure that Justin Bieber gets the reaction to singing ‘Baby’ as Will did when I asked him what a cow says and he said ‘Moo’.  MOO people!! That’s amazing!!!

4.  Doing chores.  Isn’t that why we had kids in the first place? Yet, when Will loads the dishwasher or brings in the garbage pails, you’d think he won the Nobel Peace Prize.  Just think of the insane cheering once he learns to bring me a beer in a frosty mug!!!
5. Recognizing the Beatles.  I burst with pride.  Car radio on.  George Harrison is singing ‘Something’ and Will says ‘Mom is this the Beatles?’.  Oh YES my boy – and it’s mommy’s favourite Beatle.  And you are the smartest boy in the entire world for knowing it’s the Beatles.      I sort of choose to forget that he thinks EVERY song not by a kids band is the Beatles.
See what I’m getting at here?  What surprising celebrations have you been throwing since becoming a parent??

Wait until his first tooth falls out, he gets his first goal, he gets an award at school. Praising our kids and celebrating their milestones are awesome! We make sure we call the grandparents and cousins too! Yay! Will!
